A Voice from the Sacristy (5 Sunday of Easter, 28 April 2024)

The Good Shepherd's Voice for God's Shepherds
1

Join Nathan Hoff and Dave Wollan for A Voice from the Sacristy. The Gospel Reading for the Fifth Sunday of Easter is from John 15.1-8. The theme for this week is the freedom of a messenger, taken from the 2nd stanza of the sacristy prayer at Riddarholmen Church in Stockholm:
Truth be on thy lips,
for they are to keep the doctrine pure:
Love rule thy heart,
for thou art a messenger of grace;
Fortitude arm thy soul,
for thou bearest orders of the Great King.

A stabilizing and strengthening audio biography of Charles Simeon is available here, and the quote from Charles Simeon:

“We must not mind a little suffering for Christ’s sake. When I am getting through a hedge, if my head and shoulders are safely through, I can bear the pricking of my legs. Let us rejoice in the remembrance that our holy Head has surmounted all His suffering and triumphed over death. Let us follow Him patiently; we shall soon be partakers of His victory” (H.C.G. Moule, Charles Simeon, London: InterVarsity, 1948, 155f.).

Dave Wollan is a pastor at Faith Lutheran in Hutchinson, MN, husband to Andrea, and father of four awesome kids. Dave loves being a part of the church, good coffee, and the Minnesota Vikings.

Celebrate as Dave graduates this Saturday with his Doctor of Ministry from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI. He, along with other voices (Mandy Smith and Nathan Hoff) have participated in the same D.Min. cohort through the Eugene Peterson Center for Christian Imagination.
